It would be an understatement to say that 2009 was an amazing year for our family. The year started off with the “excitement” of finding out that little Max was trying to make an early escape (and subsequent cerclage and 6 1/2 weeks of bed rest), and ended with a 30th birthday party for my sister-in-law and the boys’ part-time nanny, LeAnn. In between we celebrated MANY amazing milestones.
In January, I had my long-awaited baby shower (in the Swedish Hospital perinatology waiting room), thrown by my amazing sister and sister-in-law. February brought the birth of our little miracles, Maxwell Allen and Weston Skinner, and my 33rd birthday the following week. March brought the first visit from Max and Wes’s great grandpa, my Grampy, while the boys were still in the NICU. April was the month that both boys were finally home with us. May marked the month that I went back to work after being on short-term disability since the beginning of the year. June brought a “reunion” and playdate with my cycle buddy, Lanie, and her twins, Justice and Sydney, and July was when both Max (first) and Wes rolled over. In August (the month we conceived Max and Wes a year earlier), Jeff and I celebrated our 6th wedding anniversary and the boys turned 6 months old – Max was also sitting up by himself at this time. In September, both boys got their first cold and started solids, and we celebrated Jeff’s31st birthday. October was when Max and Wes made their debut in the New York Times (on the front page!!!), and they both started crawling (at eight months old, six months adjusted!). November was Prematurity Awareness Month, and we celebrated our preemies by getting together with some of Max and Wes’s NICU friends, Kyla and Avery (and their parents). In December, both boys started pulling up on EVERYTHING, and Wes can even walk with the help of a walker. We also celebrated Max and Wes’s first Christmas and Grammy and Grampy’s house in Wyoming.
I can only imagine that the new year will bring many more exciting milestones. More smiles and tears, more giggles and more boo-boo’s. We’re getting ready to kick off the Swedish NICU support group (our first meeting is this Tuesday), and Max and Wes turn A YEAR OLD in February. The boys will start walking and talking this year, and Jeff and I will (hopefully) be celebrating our 7th anniversary by taking a (kid-free) trip to Napa sometime this fall. I cannot wait for all of the amazing things to come for our family – Jeff and I are so incredibly blessed, especially considering how different our life would be had the IVF not worked (I don’t even like thinking about that). Thank you to all of our friends, family members, and blog readers/supporters who have helped to make the last couple of years as great as they’ve been!
Stay tuned for some photos from the last few days…
