Max and Wes Showing Off for the Videographer Pt 3

We are experiencing some technical difficulties, please be patient.

Awww – Our growing boys

Published by Kerry | Filed under Uncategorized

I just realized that I really never talk about how much Max and Wes are growing, what they’ve been up to, etc.  Since I’m online to upload a few photos, I may as well let you all know how they are doing!  We had their 9 month appointment last Friday, and here are the stats:
Max – 15 lbs, 15.5 oz, 27″ long, head circumference 17.5″
Wes – 15 lbs, 15.5 oz, 27.5″ long, head circumference 17″

Dr. B said that they looked “amazing”, and even commented that Max was crawling better than his own 12 month old son.  He said that other than their smaller stature (they are both just barely on the charts for height and weight for their *actual* age), one would never know that they were born 10 weeks early.  He was very impressed with their cognitive and fine motor skills, and couldn’t get over the fact that they were both so sturdy and stable when sitting and even standing (assisted).  Jeff and I were absolutely beaming during the appointment – it was nothing but terrific news all around!

Max still just has two (bottom) teeth, but we are certain that he’s getting more soon since he’s been SUPER duper grumpy pants lately (completely out of character for him, as most of you know).  He has had a really tough time with getting teeth, but I’m pretty sure it’s because he’s usually so easygoing the rest of the time.  He has a full head of the softest, finest, light brown hair and the most amazing deep blue eyes (more my color).  He is crawling like a champ, able to get from room to room in a matter of minutes.  He is always very inquisitive, and wants to get into EVERYTHING.  He’s been eyeballing the doggy door and Rex’s food and water dishes lately, so Jeff and I hear ourselves saying, “Maxwell – NO!” a lot.  =)  He is still our quiet little guy, and prefers to play sitting up, by himself, as opposed to with his brother (or anyone else for that matter).  He doesn’t babble much, but when he does, he always looks like he is very pleased with himself.  It’s so cute!  He is starting to show us that he knows who “mommy” and “daddy” and “puppy” are, but he couldn’t care less about trying to say those words.  We can always get him to laugh hysterically by playing peek-a-boo with him and by (me) singing the Spongebob Squarepants theme song (yes, I know the whole thing).  He is doing really well with eating solids, and today he had bacon for the first time (thanks to his daddy), and surprise, surprise – he LOVED it.

Wes has two (bottom) teeth, and two more coming in on each side of those, and I don’t want to jinx us (knocking on wood), but teething really doesn’t seem to bother him at all.  Jeff thinks it’s because he dealt with acid reflux for so long that he’s used to pain, which breaks my heart, but it’s probably not too far from the truth.  Wes still looks bald, but he does have some hair – it’s just very, very light blond, and very fine.  When he gets out of the tub, and we rub his head with a towel, it looks like peach fuzz, and smells sooooo good.  He has the lightest, clearest blue eyes you’ve ever seen (much like his daddy’s in the right light), and he has been really fun to be around lately – just smiling all.the.time and letting out the most delightful squeals, beeps, and “oooohs”.  I’m certain he’ll be the first to talk – he’s always babbling “daaa daaa daaa”, “maa maa maa”, “baa baa baa”, etc. (although not in the right context), and like his mommy, he LOVES to hear himself talk.  LOL!  He is also a very fast little crawler, although his form could use a little work.  =)  I think he’s just so anxious to stand up (he wants to walk sooo bad) that he doesn’t care much for crawling – but since it gets him where he wants to go, he’ll deal.  We caught him crawling up the doggy stairs the other day (yes, we have stairs for Rexy to get onto our bed – stop laughing), which is fine since there are only three stairs – but damn, we couldn’t believe it!  He likes playing with others, and would rather not be alone.  He is a toy-stealer, so we are definitely going to need to work on his sharing skills.  He will have absolutely no interest in a toy unless Max suddenly picks it up – then he will drop what he’s doing and haul ass over to where Max is sitting – just to steal the toy from him!  Wes also loves the Spongebob Squarepants song, and will get the biggest smile on his face when I sing him “Hangin’ Tough” (don’t ask).  He likes food – a lot – but isn’t really grasping the concept of chunkier solids or finger food yet (he chokes or gags on most everything we give him).

I’m still making ALL of their baby food, and finding that I really enjoy doing so.  Thanks to LeAnn for letting me borrow this book, which has been very helpful with hints and recipes for different “meals” to try out.  Yes, it’s a little more time-consuming, but we are saving soooooo much money by me making it, and I also think it helps alleviate some of the guilt I had from not being able to breastfeed them as long as I wanted to (I have control issues – duh).  I usually buy what’s on sale that week, and make a pretty big batch so that it lasts for awhile.  So far, they’ve liked pretty much everything we’ve given them, although they still aren’t sold on bananas.  Max actually cringed when we fed them to him – and Wes turned his head, so hilarious!  They only like avocados when they’re mixed with something else, like apples, but other than those two foods they are very healthy eaters!  So far, we’ve tried:  apples, pears, peaches, raspberries, blackberries, avocados, carrots, sweet potatoes, broccoli, cauliflower, pumpkin, zucchini, summer squash, parsnips, potatoes, peas, and chicken.  They’ve also had yogurt (love it!), and tried a few bites of mommy and daddy’s dinner here and there.  I caught Jeff’s mom sneaking Wes a little taste of pumpkin pie on Thanksgiving, and we may or may not have given them a little taste of brownie the other day, too.  =)

They are getting so big! I can’t believe they have grown so much. For preemies they are doing amazing.

They are right behind my 9 month old son in terms of size and weight (he is a fast crawler too lol!) and he was over 8 lbs and 2 weeks overdue when he was born!
