Quick Update

Published by Kerry | Filed under Uncategorized

Last night at around 6 p.m. both Wes and Max had their breathing tubes removed but they still have the lines in their umbilical cords for feeding and meds.  This allowed us to be able to hold them; I got Max and Kerry got Wes.  They both had echocardiograms to check their hearts to make sure the blood vessel connecting the aorta and the pulmonary artery had closed (medically called PDA – Patent Ductus Arteriosus).  This happens on it’s own normally, but with preemies it can stay open.  Wes has not had the artery close so they gave him indomethacin (medication) to help the process along.  He will have another echocardio scan on Friday to check everything out, but the good news is after he was given his meds they could no longer hear the murmur associated with PDA.

They are now both in isolettes (incubators) which they like much better.  The hustle and bustle of being out in the open seemed to be a little too much for our little guys.
